Kongsi chips in to help students excel
LEONG San Tong Khoo Kongsi in Penang has come forward to support The Star’s UPSR workshop for Years Five and Six pupils by sponsoring RM5,000.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Khoo Keat Siew said the kongsi has always emphasised the importance of education and encouraged programmes that promote learning.
“We are happy to assist The Star in conducting this workshop as UPSR is considered the first major examination for the students before stepping into secondary schools.
“The kongsi has a long history of supporting education and we even give out scholarships to our members’ children,” he said after handing over a mock cheque to Star Media Group Bhd audience management senior manager (north) Oun Sui Leng at the kongsi in George Town yesterday.
Keat Siew said the workshop would boost the participants’ confidence and furnish them with good tips for their examination.
“We welcome future collaborations with The Star on similar projects that can improve the lives of our younger generation.
“We hope through this contribution, the children will become successful and contribute back to the community in whatever field they are in,” he added.
Some 120 Years Five and Six pupils from Chinese vernacular primary schools will attend The Star’s UPSR workshop today from 8am to 5.30pm at KDU Penang University College.
